CITY lad Harsh Pandit and his father Himanshu Kumar have registered their names in the Guinness Book of World Records for successfully completing 900 kms marathon from Jabalpur to New Delhi. The objective of the marathon was to create awareness on environment protection and cleanliness in the country. Himanshu Kumar (41) is an employee of Gun Carriage Factory, and his 13-year-old son Harsh Pandit is a student of class 7 in Kendriya Vidyalaya, GCF-2.
 
Talking with the mediapersons, Himanshu Kumar said that the main objective behind 900 km marathon was not only to register name in Guinness Book of World Records and Indian Book of Records, but to ensure their contribution in creating social awareness for polythene-free India and water conservation for a better future. According to Himanshu, he had completed solo marathon of 1200 kilometres from Jabalpur to Kolkata with an aim of Swachh Narmada, Swachh Ganga and Swachh Bharat on January 26, 2018. During the marathon, the father-son duo practiced 6-7 hours daily to keep themselves fit and active both physically and mentally for the marathon.
 
They started marathon from Pandit Ravishankar Shukla Stadium on January 26, 2020 and covered 50 kilometres every day and reached India Gate, New Delhi, on February 12. Senior officers of Human Resource Development Ministry and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Delhi, officers accorded them a rousing welcome and honoured them on their remarkable achievement. On their achievement, senior office-bearers of GCF Karmchari Union and officers of VFJ, OFK, GIF, COD, 506 Army Base Workshop, Kendriya Vidyalaya congratulated them.
