Crime Branch sleuths have nabbed a four-member team of Sisodiya tribe involved in multiple thefts at marriage functions. For first time cops in Maharashtra have managed to track down the thieves, said Nilesh Bharne, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Crime), while interacting with newspersons on Sunday. Among the four are a minor and a woman while the other two men are mastermind of the gang. Bharne said the quartet are Sunny Hariprasad Chayal (32), a resident of Kadiya, Sansi, in Rasonda tehsil of Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh, Mohit Mahendrasingh (26), Bambabai Sisodiya (45), and the minor.

While the first two men were running the gang, the woman and minor used to get changed after few bag liftings to ensure that no one suspect them at functions. DIG Bharne said the four are tough nuts to crack and for police it is a hard time to extract information. The Unit No 5 of Crime Branch came into picture following a theft during a marriage function at a plush hotel in Ramdaspeth area. During investigations the team of Crime Branch scoured CCTV footages and narrowed on two persons, a middle aged woman and a minor seen handling a bag that contained gold and silver ornaments totalling couple of lakhs.

The Crime Branch sleuths went through old record and narrowed on Sisodiya tribe from Madhya Pradesh known for filching during marriage functions. Said Inspector Vinod Patil, “we collected electronic evidence and narrowed on Sisodiya tribe known for their handiwork in marriage events.” As the mobile location of the accused persons shifted from one place to another the cops kept on their chase and finally rounded up the two from their rented premises in Bada Tajbagh area on Sunday. The four were ready to flee from city when cops netted them and seized sizable stolen goods. Cops have seized 60 gm of diamond studded gold ornaments worth Rs 5.14 lakh. DIG Bharne said entire village of Kadiya dominated by Sisodiya tribe is involved in similar types of bag liftings throughout the country.

They must have multiple offence registered against them with various police stations. In city seven offence of thefts including four of Lakadganj police station, one each of Gittikhadan, Kalamna and Sitabuldi police stations were detected. The role of woman is to take place on rent while the minor boy would lift the bag containing valuables and flee from the marriage place and hand over the same to two main members of the gang. The valuable used to be sold at their native village and hence no one got suspicion about their involvement, the investigations revealed.
