Bank services remained paralysed on second day of strike 
 
Bank employees under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) submitted a memorandum to the Governor Lalji Tandon. The two-day bank strike paralysed banking services in the State capital completely. On Saturday, bank employees staged protest in front of State Bank of India office which was followed by rally. In Madhya Pradesh this union has strength of total 40,000 employees. From Bhopal around 7,000 employees have rendered their support.
 
On January 31 rally was taken out from Big Bazaar to Vishal Mega Mart via Jail road. Bank employees said that differences between bank employees’ union and management over a 20% pay hike, five-day work week, etc failed to get resolved, thousands of bank employees sat on a two-day bank strike from January 31. Bank union leaders said IBA has offered 15% pay hike as if now from 12 %. Several PSU bank branches and even ATMs remain shut for two days in many parts of city.
 
The bank unions have refused to budge from their demands of a 20% pay hike on pay slip components with adequate loading thereof. United Forum of Bank Unions comprising of All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), Indian National Bank Employees Federation (INBEF), National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), Indian National Bank Officers Congress (INBOC), All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) & National Organization of Bank Officers (NOBO) etc have given nationwide strike call in support of their various demands.
 
SBI and other PSU banks have notified their customers in advance that services are likely to be affected due to the two-day nationwide strike. Bank unions across the country have threatened to go strike from January 31 in order to press for wage revision last week itself. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has given the call for the January 31 bank employees strike. V K Sharma general secretary of the organization UFBU also said that the meeting to resolve issues with Chief Labour Commissioner was futile and no substantial result is coming out so far. The organization is planning to go for indefinite strike from April 1 if their demands are not met.
