Transfer of technology from college to village is no more a dream. Dream of Dr Vijay Bhatkar, an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development’s (MHRD) Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and efforts of students and faculties has made it possible. Government College of Engineering Nagpur developed two projects for the two adopted villages 1. Smart compost bin and 2. Mobile On/Off Controller for 3 Phase Motor. They completed the projects by developing technologies and handed over those to the villages. Nagpur Collector Ravindra Thakare and Joint Director of Technical Education, Nagpur Dr Ram Nibudey handed over these projects to Sarpanch of Khapri Rekhatai Sontakke and Sarpanch of Wela Sachin Ingle.

Sanjay Nichat, Member of college development committee and Sumitatai Buchunde, Panchayat Samiti Member, Besa Circle also witnessed this success. Smart compost bin of capacity 50 kg are designed and developed by Ankit Lende, Prasad Birajdar, Satyam Savnganwar, Swardha Dixit, Madhuri Mohod, Ameya Shahu under the guidance of Dr K M Tajne. It is covered and sensor based opening of cover, run with solar panel for cover opening and shredding. The biodegradable waste is loaded in the composting unit. Biodegradable waste is chopped finely to increase the area of decomposition with the help of cutting blade set up. Addition of compost starter consisting of microbes which starts the composting process. Screens are provided at the bottom for separating liquid fertilizer.

The manure is then collected by the opening provided in side wall of composting unit. Outlets are provided to collect both solid and liquid fertilizers. It is handed over to village Khapri. Another project related to Mobile ON/OFF controller for 3 phase motor developed by Puneet Jha, Akhilesh Chinchamalatpure, Rohit Chinchwadkar, Abhishek Debroy, Rohit Agnihotri, Aditya Upadhyay, Devashish Joshi, Indrajit Lonkar, Pranit Mandaokar, Akash Patre under the guidance of Dr P.R. Deshmukh.

This project provides development of mobile phones as remote control application for the induction motor pump which is used in the agriculture. Due to frequent power cuts and abnormal voltage conditions in India, it is necessary to distribute water efficiently to the fields during normal conditions. This is carried out by exchanging the information between the user phone and GSM in the form of messages. This system is developed with suitable Microcontroller which is connected to the GSM and the motor.

The microcontroller includes the protection against over-current, dry running and single phasing. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Coordinated by Dr Latesh Malik and S R Patil under the able guidance of Principal Dr M B Kumthekar. They conducted house hold survey of 588 houses, village survey of 5 villages and submitted village development plan with help of UBA Cell. Various other activities like plastic removal drive, gram sabhas are also conducted. This project is creating thick bonding between GCOEN and nearby adopted villages.
