Two teenage boys drowned in Kanhan river near Kamptee on Wednesday afternoon when they tried to swim in the river, said police. The deceased were identified as Ajesh Nitnawre (13) and Pravesh Pravin Nagdeve (14), both residents of Haridas Nagar, Kamptee.
 
A police official said that a group of eight teenagers had gone to Mahadeo Ghat of Kanhan river for swimming in the afternoon. Of them, four children ventured in the waters while others sat outside with their clothes and belongings. Ajesh and Pravesh moved in deep waters and began to drown. There two friends, who were swimming with them, immediately came out from the water and raised alarm with others. Within five minutes Ajesh and Pravesh drowned in the water.
 
An alert citizen Purushottam Kawale rushed to the spot after hearing screams of the boys and jumped into the water but failed. He took out the bodies from the river after searching for two hours. Kamptee police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and registered a case of accidental death. Police have ruled out any foul play in the deaths. Ajesh and Pravesh were studying in Standard VII and IX respectively. Ajesh’s father had passed away in his childhood. Ajesh’s mother was working at WCL plant in Khaparkheda. He was the only child of his mother and was living with grandfather for study. While Pravesh has two sisters. Before the parents and relatives of the boys rushed to the spot. The bodies were sent to hospital for post-mortem.
