The magisterial custody remand (MCR) of Vikesh alias Vickey Nagrale, accused of setting afire a 24-year-old female lecturer in Hinganghat, has been extended upto March 4. He was produced before court in Hinganghat on Thursday and later sent back to Central Jail in Nagpur. Vikesh has been put up in the Anda Cell at the Nagpur jail owing to security reasons.

Even on Thursday, his appearance in the Hinganghat court was carried out under utmost secrecy. The young college lecturer from Daroda was set afire on February 3 and she succumbed to the burns on February 10 at Nagpur. The incident had led to a wave of anger across the State and a series of protests were witnessed in Wardha district.

Police, therefore, are taking no chances regarding security of the accused from angry mob at any given time. Meanwhile, cops investigating the case have collected samples of petrol from the victim’s clothes as well as from the motorcycle of the accused and sent them for lab testing. SDPO Trupti Jadhav is heading the probe.
