A boat overturned during a water sports activity on the second day of Indian Police Services (IPS) Officers’ Conclave 2020 at Boat Club in the Upper Lake area of State capital on Thursday. Eight people, including IPS officers, were rescued after their boat capsized in Upper Lake during adventure sports meet. All occupants of the boat are safe as they were wearing life jackets and rescuers were also present in the vicinity during the event rescued them in time. However, two of them reportedly lost their cell phones.
 
The incident occurred during the dragon boat race, which was a part of adventure water sports event in the IPS Officers’ Conclave, Hitendra Singh Bhadoria, a public relations officer of the police headquarters said. The boat carrying family members of senior officers and a couple of IPS officers including IPS Rajesh Chawla, his wife Sunita Chawla, ADG Vijay Kataria’s son Deepanshu, IPS officer son Apurva Arjariya and Special DG Purushottam Sharma’s wife Priya Sharma, overturned during the race. Madhya Pradesh DGP Vijay Kumar Singh’s wife Tuheen Singh was also present in the boat at the time of the incident. The IPS officers and family were rescued with the help of other boats.
 
“All those in the boat were wearing life jackets and hence there was no casualty,” ADG Vijay Kataria of Police Welfare unit said. President of Madhya Pradesh IPS Officers Association Vijay Yadav said the incident wasn’t serious, as the race was a part of water sports activities. “It was normal. Such incidents do occur during water sports events. All the occupants were wearing life jackets and safety arrangements were in place,” he said. There was another incident when an overloaded raft boat suffered a rapture after ramming into a cruise boat at the same site. However, no injuries were reported in this incident too.
