SWIMMER Rutuja Talegaonkar became first sportsperson from the city to bag a medal in the inaugural edition of Khelo India University Games (KIUG) in progress in Bhubaneswar, Odisha on Sunday. The ace swimmer pocketed a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle event with a timing of 4 min 55.90 sec. Late last year, Rutuja became the first athlete from RTMNU to win four medals at any one single event.
 
She won golds in 400m and 800m freestyle events and silver medals in 400m and 200m IMs. Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Director, Sports and Physical Education, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, her NIS coach Sanjay Batwe and other sports lovers congratulated her on the feat. The KIUG, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is organised by the Sports and Youth Welfare Ministry of India 1st time for University students in order to search talent for the Asian and Olympic Games.
