Laxity on the part of local police comes to light as the youth vandalised helicopter and then laid down on runway in front of an aircraft at Raja Bhoj Airport

A 20-year-old youth entered the operational runway area of Raja Bhoj Airport illegally on Sunday. He broke window glass of a parked helicopter by pelting stones and then laid down on runway in front of SpiceJet aircraft going to Udaipur. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans overpowered, arrested the miscreant and handed him over to Gandhi Nagar police.

The incident not only created sensation among passengers at the airport as it was time of landing and taking off for planes but it also raised a question on security arrangements at the airport. CISF blamed local police for breach of security at the airport as youth who introduced himself as Yogesh Tripathi (20), son of Vishwamohan, a resident of Arera Colony managed to reach the runway. He entered from State hangar side at around 5 pm where local police are deployed for security.

Local police did not intercept him and allowed him to move further and after vandalising the chopper he then ran towards runway and laid down before the aircraft at around 5:30 pm. Pilot of flight then informed officials of air traffic service (ATS) following which CISF jawans detained him. Virendra Singh, CISF chief said, “Yogesh Tripathi, who looks a bit mentally disturbed, entered from State hangar side. Prima facie looks laxity on the part of local police as security at this level is with local police. Yogesh managed to reach the runway and broke window glass of a helicopter. Meantime, CISF security men rushed and overpowered him and handed over to police.”
