Passengers had a narrow escape when the ceiling fan in the passenger MEMU train fell suddenly on Monday. As per information the incident took place in a passenger MEMU train departing, Durg at 10:00 am. Sources informed that a group of women with small children were sitting in the circulating area of train in coach number 21038 in which the incident took place.

When the train reached Bhilai power house the group of women alighted from the train. When the train resumed the journey and reached near Bhilai-3 the passengers were shocked to see one of the ceiling fan falling in the same place which was occupied by women and children few minutes back. The passengers standing close to the gate had a narrow escape.

The condition would have been worse, had the fan fell before the train reached power house. None bothered to report the matter to Station Director when the train reached Raipur Railway Station. The condition of MEMU passenger trains operated in the division, are reportedly worse and the situation resulted due to poor maintenance of equipments filled in the rakes. Station Director of Raipur Railway Station BVT Rao informed that no such message was conveyed by any passenger to the railway authorities.
