Khamtarai Police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked multiple cases of theft as well as house-breaking, including a burglary worth Rs 15 lakh took place in Bemetara district, by arresting a notorious thief. “Police have arrested a thief identified as Pradeep Tiwari (32), a resident of Transport Nagar, in connection with three separate cases of thefts/house-breaking reported in limits of Khamtarai police station and burglary worth Rs 15 lakh took place in the house of a iron trader in Bemetara district.
 
From the possession of arrested thief, police have recovered valuables to the tune of over Rs 1.50 lakh including a moped purchased with stolen money,” said Khamtarai Station House Officer (SHO) Ramakant Sahu. Based on precise tip, police rounded-up Tiwari and subjected to interrogation, where he revealed of committing three burglaries in limits of Khamtarai Police, said SHO Sahu, elaborating that the accused also revealed his involvement in burglary worth Rs 15 lakh took place in the house of Bemetara-based iron trader.
 
“Tiwari, history-sheeter of Khamtarai police station, has committed all the thefts and burglaries in a very professional manner. The notorious thief has spent jail term for around five separate times in connection with around 15 cases of thefts/burglaries. He was released from jail few months bank,” said Inspector Sahu.
 
Thieves strike rich in Raipur
 
Posing continuous challenge for Raipur Police, unidentified thieves broke into two houses located at Shanti Residency Society under Rajendra Nagar police limits and decamped with valuables to the tune of around Rs 7 lakh. On intervening night of January 3 and January 4, unidentified thieves lurked into the locked house of a bank employee Vishwa Bhusan Acharya (30) and made away with Rs 21,000 cash and ornaments totaling around Rs 7 lakh, said police sources, adding that the burglars also broke into the house of a doctor in the same locality but nothing was stolen from there. CCTV cameras installed in the locality have captured few suspects, added police sources. The incident took place when the victim was not in the city, mentioned the sources. On victim’s complaint, police registered an offence against unidentified thieves under Section 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) and 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched a probe.
