The 48-hour long income tax surveys mounted on 11 different business premises of Raipur and Baloda-Bazar/Bhatapara districts yielded rich dividends on Thursday as the tax enforcers’ unearthed concealed income to tune the tune of over Rs 13 crore from the evaders. It may be recalled here that different teams of taxmen under the supervision of two senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officials on the rank of Joint Commissioner had mounted surveys on five jewellery showrooms in Raipur; two rice mills and a pulses processing mill in Bhatapara, in addition to a private nursing home and a medical store in Baloda Bazaar. “The concurrent survey operations, carried out under the supervision of Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (JCIT) Sanjay Kumar alone led to the disclosure of unaccountable income to the tune of Rs 11 crore by the tax evaders in Baloda-Bazar/Bhatapara district, whereas a substantial amount of unaccounted income was also unearthed in Raipur from the operations being overseen by JCIT Anubha Tah Goel, Assessment Wing, Range-2 & Range-4,” knowledgeable sources in Income Tax Department here confided to The Hitavada. According to the sources, in Bhatapara area, M/s Siyaram Rice Mill and M/s Annapurna Rice Mill coughed up a concealed income of Rs 3 crore. Apropos, an unaccounted income of Rs 1 crore was unearthed from M/s Jai Krishna Pulses, also in Bhatapara.
 
“In Baloda Bazar, taxmen uncovered undeclared income to the tune of Rs 6.25 crore following the surveys conducted on Chanda Devi Tiwari Hospital and M/s Neha Medical Store,” the sources added. Sources further revealed that the tax watchdogs also dug out concealed income to the tune of over Rs 2.70 crore from five different jewellery showrooms of Bhatagaon and Santoshi Nagar areas in Raipur, which were surveyed.
 
“While the four jewellery showrooms covered in Bhatagaon area, near Naka Chowk were M/s Alankar Jewellers, M/s Shri Gurudev Jewellers, M/s Anmol Jewellers and M/s Shri Laxmi Jewellers, the lone showroom in Santoshi Nagar area was that of M/s Laxmi Jewellers,” the sources said, adding further that all of them were undertaking their business in ‘kutccha’ (out of books). Moreover, the sources also averred that all the teams of taxmen were accompanied by the security escort of troopers roped in from Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) in order to overcome any sorts of resistance, which, however, was not net met at any of the premises covered during the survey operations.
