Under Chhattisgarh Government’s ambitious project ‘Narwa, Garwa, Ghurwa, Badi’’, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) Raipur has initiated an important step for production of advance quality open pollinated seeds. The objected to this move is to ensure advance quality vegetable seeds to farmers across the state in reasonable price.

The productions of seeds are being carried out in all Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) under the university. According to information received, the production of open pollinated vegetable seeds are being produced from 27.43 hectare land under 27 KVKs of the university and this will be increased to 100 hectare.

Open pollinated vegetable seed varieties developed by the university include pea, fenugreek, Brinjal, coriander, radish, onion and others. Open pollinated seeds have yield capacity similar to hybrid seeds. As compare to hybrid seeds, open pollinated seeds are more resistant to diseases, favourable to climate, low production cost and high demand in local market.
