As Bhopalites embrace the national lockdown to counter the coronavirus pandemic, many a shopkeeper and medical store owners are turning responsible by ensuring that customers maintain social distancing, the only effective measure to combat the COVID-19 coronavirus. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown ahead of COVID-19 pandemic, people rushed to stock goods as they were unsure if local shops will run out of supplies in the coming days. As the shopkeepers struggle to deal with large crowds, cops, officials of district administration and those of BMC encircled spots outside the shops to avoid gathering of people.

Designated positions were chalked out for customers so that they stand at least a metre apart from each other. The grocery shop owners are also seeing it to that the customers maintain proper distance and hygiene. Soap water are being sprayed on glass panels and sanitisers are being given to the customers as they come to the shops. The owners of the stores are also appealing the citizens to put on masks. Grocery shops and milk parlours will remain functional and will continue their services throughout the lockdown period.
