Utilise lockdown period to learn new things: CBSE

Owing to outbreak of COVID-19 in all over nation including Chhattisgarh, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has not only postponed remaining exams of class 10th and 12th, but directed schools to not start new academic session of elementary classes. In this condition, to end the free time of students, CBSE has called them this crisis a golden option for all as this offered ample time for teachers, parents and students to learn and refocus on real purpose of education.
In a letter addressed to all students, teachers and parents, Secretary of board Anurag Tripathi talked about education system in advanced nations like Japan as well as Germany where content in books and topics being taught at schools were the same, yet there was a difference. In India, most of them focus only on teaching while they focus on learning. Since learning outcome was what the education system of advanced nations learning settled towards, it reflected on the final product as well.
In the letter, as many parts, some guidelines were also mentioned on how to spend the time ahead in this lockdown situation owing to outbreak of COVID-19. The Secretary told that parents should understand it and utilise this free time by teaching new things to the students with the help of their home products, plants in their garden and also of internet. They would also play with their children through indoor games like chess, ludo and others which will also help children to learn some things.
Even on regular basis, Tripathi shared some ideas on how one could make the most of the time available. He stated that, first thing in the morning everyone should do was exercises which include stretching of legs and hands. He also said that, parents should take help of their children in household activities and teach them new skills of kitchen works which will be turned out to an enjoyable as well as creative experience to students.
The Secretary also encouraged students to engage their free time by doing some other works like drawing and painting, dance, singing, reading story books and also making some other things.
CBSE urged parents and children to make full use of the digital content being released by board and HRD Ministry and ensure that this lockdown became an opportunity to learn some new things at home. Prashant Kumar, School Principal asserted that, it a great idea shared by CBSE’s Secretary and parents and students should follow the guidelines and would learn some new things by daily activities in this lockdown state.
