Many poor migrant workers are stranded at various places in the district owing to lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak. For them, food packets are being provided through ‘Shivbhojan Thali Yojana’ centres in the city. Ravindra Thakre, District Collector, stated in a press release that the operators of ‘Shivbhojan Thali Yojana’ centres in the city exhibited their social responsibility and distributed food packets to poor workers. The operators of the centres catering to poor people at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) and Daga Hospital prepared the food packets comprising ‘rotis’, cooked vegetable, rice, dal, and pickle, stated Bhaskar Tayade, District Supply Officer.

On January 26 this year, State Government’s ‘Shivbhojan Thali Yojana’ centres were inaugurated at the hands of Dr Nitin Raut, Guardian Minister of district. Through these centres, 750 ‘Shivbhojan Thalis’ were being made available at the nominal cost of Rs 10/- per plate to poor and needy persons. However, on Sunday, considering the crisis the migrant workers were passing through, the centre operators distributed the food packets for free to the workers stranded at Wadi.

Yashwant Pande, Director of Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Swayamrojgar Seva Sanstha; and Surekha Khobragade, Director of Suvidha Bahu-uddeshiya Sanstha, who operate the centres at IGGMCH and Daga Hospital, stated that the migrant workers thanked them immensely for the noble gesture. Meanwhile, at ‘Shivbhojan Thali Yojana’ centres, social distancing norm is being followed. The circles with particular distance have been marked outside the centres so that the beneficiaries can stand at a distance from each other.
