Easy methods from Ayurved for improving immunity

With the scientists concluding that strengthening inbuilt immunity is the only method to combat spread of Corona Virus of any other infection, the methods prescribed by ancient Indian health system Ayurved gains immense importance. In fact both Ayurved and Homeopathy have their base in improving immunity to ward off the external attacks are automatically. Dr G M Mamtani and Dr Anju Mamtani have made suggestions for improving immunity in view of fast spread of Corona Virus. Besides strictly following the government directives on lockdown and frequent sanitization, the diet to be followed makes the difference. The Mamtani couple has been practising Ayurved for several decades in the city, under their organisation G Kumar Arogyadham.
 
The organisation also publishes a quarterly health magazine ‘Swasthya Vatika’, which is popular among the readers across the nation. Although Dr Mamtani has not claimed cure for Corona Virus through his suggestions for preventing infections, he has made suggestions and advised to follow them in whichever manner and extent possible.
 
Ayurved is not a method of including plants of medicinal importance, but also include exercise mentioned in Yogic Science. The suggestions include use of Neem or Gudwel sticks for brushing teeth. These sticks were being used traditionally by people, till the modern toothpaste and brush entered the market. The brushing may be followed by Pranayam for strengthening the respiratory system. the morning tea can have some quantify of Tulsi leaves, Laung (clove), Ginger, Dalchini, Yashtimadhu and Black Pepper. Instead of other drinks, water should be consumed in higher quantity, after boiling it to kill other germs. Water and food stored for a long period in fridge must be avoided. Dr Mamtani has suggested adequate consumption of onion and lasona along with mint leaves and ginger in daily meals and avoid alcohol and tobacco, which adversely affect the immune system. Sufficient sleep and exposure to Sunlight is also important for leading healthy life. Smoke using cow dung cake, Guggul, Lobhan and Neem leaves with cow ghee helps in making the atmosphere clean.
 
This may not be possible in view of modern life style. But two drops of cow ghee or Panchgavya, or Shadbindu Tel in nose helps in improving the respiratory system functioning. It also helps in reducing snoring. In the present situation using mask is very important to prevent. Besides using dalchini, laung, ilaychi (Cardamom) and Neem oil for consumption their inhalation by boiling them in water helps in improving the respiratory system and also in removing the infections. Use of turmeric, fruits with higher Vitamin C like lemon, orange, Amla, tomato etc, maintaining peace of mind, maintaining proper digestive system are the known methods of maintaining health. They are being used effectively in traditional Indian food and cooking methods.
 
The Indian kitchen is considered to be an important dispensary, about which The Hitavada published a series of items in kitchen and their medicinal use. In view of Corona Virus spread Dr Mamtani has suggested that decoction of 10-15 Tulsi leaves, 1 TSP of ginger extract, half TSP laung powder, half TSP Dalchini powder, a few mint leaves, half TSP ilaychi powder, half TSP of Sendha Namak (rock salt) and half TSP of turmeric and 1 TSP of honey can be prepared and taken with lukewarm water. Mixture of camphor, Ilacychi and Javitri should be kept in handkerchief for smelling frequently. Laung and Behda may be chewed. Dr Mamtani said that these methods have been mentioned in Ayurved. Out of them many items suggested are available in almost every house. At least some of them can be used for protecting oneself from infections and also to improve the immune system.
