Lockdown: Demand for instant food items on rise

With people taking refuge at their respective homes due to lockdown clamped by the Government, the demand for the snacks and instant food has suddenly multiplied. The supply of biscuits, noodles, packed namkins and other food items is trimmed from the wholesalers to retailers. Prabhakar Deshmukh, President of Nagpur Chillar Kirana Vyapari Sangh said, “Supply to the retailers from distributors and dealers of intants food items is coming closer as we are unable to meet the unprecendent demand from customers.
 
Whatever stock was available at the distributor, it is getting exhausted as no one has imagined that there will be lockdown to keep coronavirus pandemic at bay particularly in the month of March,” he said. Salim Javed of Amani Sales Corporation, one the six major distributors of ‘Parle’ products said, “Supply of biscuits from the company is very less.
 
Even, we have not given permission from respective authorities to distribute items to our retailers. We are supplying products from our godown to the retailers who approach us.” He said, “We are placing orders at the companies’ factories. However, the supply is erractic due to various reasons.We are demanding local authorities to give us permission to distribute the products directly to the retail shops.” Dyaneshwar Rakshak, General Secretary of Nagpur Chillar Kirana Vyapari Sangh said, small traders are working hard to provide essential items to the customers. Packed food items, biscuits and noodles has moved out from the shelves of the retailers as a faster pace.
 
“I have discussed the situation with Dr Nitin Raut, Guardian Minister of Nagpur District and explained him the difficulties. After that I have also received a call from Dr Bhushan Kumar Upaddhay, Nagpur Police Commissioner who assured us all support,” Rakshak said. He said that the local administration monitoring the situation in the market and taking utmost care so that people should not face the shortage of instant food items.
