The outbreak of deadly Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and nationwide lockdown enforced to contain the pandemic has resulted in significant decline in crime graph in State Capital. The police stations in State Capital, which usually record around dozen of cases everyday, have witnessed remarkable drop in number of crimes after the enforcement of lockdown, said a police officer, on the condition of not to be quoted. “Amid fear of the contagious COVID-19, people are staying indoor and heavy police deployed across city to ensure compliance of lockdown were the reasons for decline in crime graph.

The crimes including burglaries, snatching, murder, attempt to murder, rape, knifing, disputes, forgery and others usually witnessed in city on regular basis were surprisingly disappeared from Daily Survey Report (DSR) of police,” said the officer. Since, people are staying in home and intensified patrolling by police round the clock were the reasons due to which burglars not targeting houses, said the officer. Moreover, road fatalities were also reduced remarkably, added the officer.

Meanwhile, a serious problem likely to appear before the city police would be safety of government-run liquor outlets across State Capital as all the shops were sealed as a part of lockdown and winebibbers are turning desperate for alcohol, feels the officer, adding that recently thefts in liquor shops here were witnessed.
