Police arrest two for spreading for fake message of Army at Kamptee on WhatsApp

Sadar police have arrested two persons for for spreading fake news on social media that Army was called to control the situation in Nagpur city. The accused have been identified as Shoeb Akram Sheikh (21), a resident of Plot No. 44, Sartaj Colony, Sakkardara and Mohd Irfan Yakub Qureshi (32), a resident of Hiwri Lay-out, Nandanvan.
 
The message went viral on WhatsApp on Monday night after which hundreds of people phoned each other and police control room for safety of their relatives. However, the message was found to be fake. The police were only making announcement in Kamptee and Hasanbagh area of Nagpur with Public Address (PA) system urging people to do not come out from their house for contain spread of coronavirus. The viral message sated that Mominpura, Shanti Nagar, Pili Nadi, Jafar, Gandhibagh, Tajbagh, Kamptee and Hasanbag have been black listed by administration.
 
Military force has been called to control the situation. The military will use rubber bullets and carry out intensive patrolling. Hence, do not come out from the house. Please share the message with everyone. A vigilant citizen had forwarded the message to WhatsApp number of Nagpur Police Control Room. After investigating the case, the police have arrested the accused.
 
On the basis of complaint given by Police Inspector Ashok Bagul, an offence under Sections 188, 506 (1) (b) of Indian Penal Code read with Section 54 of Disaster Management Act was registered by Sadar police. The arrest was made by PI Mahesh Bansonde, PI Cyber Ashwini Jagtap, APIs Vishal Mane, Vilas Mote and staff including Vinod Tiwari, Vijendra Yadav, Ajay Pawar, Dipak Chouhan and others.
