SECR to develop 55 coaches as isolation ward

South East Central Railway (SECR), Raipur Division is going to develop 55 coaches into isolation wards for coronavirus infected patients. Railway staff have started the work on war footing. As per information received from Divisional Railway Manager Shyam Sunder Gupta, concerned officials have been directed to modify the coaches as per need.
 
Fifty-five such coaches will be modified as isolated wards. These coaches would be utilised in case the number of coronavirus infected patient increase and hospitals run out of bed. This will be advanced preparation for patients. The coaches are being sanitised totally by the staff and medical equipments will be installed to develop them as isolated wards.
 
As per information received from railway sources non-air conditioned ICF sleeper coaches are being developed as quarantined, isolated coaches. Indian type of toilet will be modified into washroom equipped with bucket, mug, soap, dispenser, etc. Two of the cabins near washroom will be utilised for hospital staff use. Plastic curtains have been installed. Two oxygen cylinders will be made available by the Medical Department. Windows are covered with mosquito mesh and necessary arrangements are being made to prevent the coaches from heat.
