Displaying highest degree of restraint and resolve, people of Jashpur district observed total lockdown without deployment of police force and administration machinery on April 1, in response to an appeal made by District Collector Nileshkumar Kshirsagar a day before on Tuesday. “Almost all citizens of Jashpur stayed in their respective homes except a few who came out of their houses in the morning to buy vegetables and grocery goods.

The response to my appeal for ‘No Police Lockdown’ was overwhelming and I would like to thank all the citizens for following the lockdown advisories on their own,” said the District Collector while talking to this newspaper. All major locations such as squares, roads and streets were set free from police personnel and district administration officials, said the District Collector.

The decision of No Police Lockdown provided police personnel and administration people working round the clock some time to relax even though they were asked to stay alert for any emergency situation, said the District Collector. Earlier, the decision of lockdown without police and administration officials’ deployment looked awkward, but the District Collector while appealing the people for the same on March 31 showed faith in the people of his district.

The District Collector had also taken to social media to appeal the people of Jashpur district to show restrain to make the lockdown success without any interference from administration or police in any form. The district collector had urged the people to stay home on their own instead of doing show out of fear. Finally, the District Collector thanked the people for their cooperation.
