City coaches Dayal, Chetak join SAI-BAI online coaching

CITY’S badminton coaches Ajay Dayal and Chetak Khedikar are among 920 coaches from all over India taking part in the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Badminton Association of India (BAI) organised Online Coach Education Programme that started on April 20 and runs till May 8, 2020. Pullela Gopichand, Chief National Coach made introductory remarks and was followed by briefings from Augus Dwi Santoso and Namrih Suroto.
 
The programme is being conducted by experts on Zoom App with total 15 online sessions. The coaching will include sessions right from badminton discipline, information about experts who are taking the sessions, explanations of further sessions, process to develop technical skills for kids. The coaches pan India will be trained in —holding the racket grip forehand and backhand, how to teach footwork, different badminton strokes, physical session by physiotherapists, prevention of injuries etc. The Online Coach Education Programme is being held in two sessions. The coaching skills session is from 12 noon to 1 pm while the evening one-hour session on sports science starts at 5 pm.
 
Dayal had invitation from BAI. He also completed Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) Coaches Excellence Programme (CEP) late last year. Coaches Excellence Programme (CEP) is conducted every year (5 workshops in every 2 months) at Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence, Bengaluru. He was among ten shortlisted from the 279 applications received this year from coaches pan India. He has also been a part of Junior Indian Badminton Team in December 2019. City BWF Level One certified coach Khedikar termed the programme as a good initiative by BAI for badminton coaches to refresh their knowledge during this tough time of lockdown forced upon by coronavirus pandemic.
