IN A joint effort, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Swimming Federation of India (SFI) have come out with an online knowledge series for enhancing the knowledge of Indian swimming coaches. This online workshop ‘Swim Coaches Knowledge Series # 1’ is helping all the coaches to get advanced knowledge of technical aspects and soft skills of coaching. With this knowledge workshop, the coaches may utilise the lockdown period productively and can plan their coaching programme effectively for the coming session. After a lull of over a month, the workshop has come as a boon for coaches all over the country. The online event has received a huge response and more than 700 participants are attending the workshop daily for an hour on an App. Sessions are conducted by Indian and foreign coaches.

Till now, the following sessions (with instructors) have been completed: Orientation (Partha Majumder), Fundamentals of Swim Coaching (Nihar Ameen), Long Axis Stroke (free and back) (Peter Carswel), Short Axis Stroke (breaststroke and butterfly) (Mriguel Looper), Technique Start, Turn and Finishing (Ilya Gussakav), Adaptation in Stroke Pattern and Pacing: Distance Vs Sprints Event (Pradeep Kumar, National Swimming Coach). The sessions will continue till May 14, 2020. City coaches seemed a happy lot and came out in praise of the workshop.

“From Day One of this workshop, we are attending all the sessions and it has been an awesome experience. This online workshop is for enhancing the knowledge about many concepts on coaching. Workshop is also followed by question and answer session which is also helpful for the coaches. It will definitely help swimming coaches in improving performance of their swimmers. “I am thankful to SAI and SFI for this wonderful joint venture and would like to see more such workshops on regular basis in future too,” remarked Shashikant Chande, Asstt Coach, Aqua Sports Club, NIT Swimming Pool. He is coaching competitive swimmers since 1993 with Head Coach Dr Pravin Lamkhade (Dip In Swimming Coaching from NSNIS Patiala). “It is a nice and great initiative by authority.

I never had a experience to learn from these superstars. It is 100% useful for me in lockdown period,” said Roshan Choudhary, ASCA Level 3, Short NIS, Swimming Coach, Centre Point School, Katol Road, Nagpur. “The coaches and trainers from all around the globe are there in the workshop. It gives us great opportunities for updating ourselves by their valuable knowledge,” said Abhishek Lambat, Swimming and Water Polo Coach. “In this workshop very innovative techniques are explained by experts that will be very useful in developing skills in our students,” said Nitin Malwade of School of Scholars, Wanadongri Nagpur and Star Sports Academy at NIT Swimming Pool. “While all sportspersons are away from their fields, their coaches are also missing the action during ongoing lockdown. Swimming Federation of India and Sports Authority of India have provided a great channel by starting the series. Interacting with many national and international coaches is an excellent opportunity to learn from the best in business,” said Chetan Garge, Assistant Coach, Victorious Swimming and Sporting Association, NIT Swimming Pool.
