14.2 kg LPG cylinder price drops by Rs 115.50 in 2 months

OIL marketing companies (OMCs)have once again slashed the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) giving asigh of relief to consumers. As per the new prices applicable for the month April,the non-subsidized LPG cylinder weighing 14.2 kg will cost Rs 789.50, which isRs 63 less than its price in March. It is for the second time in the currentmonth when the prices have dropped. In February, the price of LPG was at alevel of Rs 905 per cylinder of 14.2 kg.
 
Thus the prices per cylinder have comedown by Rs 115.50 in two months. It is worth mentioning here thatthe consumers buying the cooking gas will get subsidy of about Rs 200 percylinder deposited directly in their bank accounts. Government gives subsidy toconsumers up to 12 cylinders in a year. Those who have exhausted the quota of12 cylinders will have to pay the full amount. In addition to this, the price ofcommercial LPG cylinder of 19 kg has come down to Rs 1,403 from Rs 1,499.
 
The major state-owned OMCs are Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL),Hindusthan petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation(IOC). The tax on LPG changes everymonth, depending on the fluctuation in the average international benchmark LPGrate and foreign exchange rate.
