Cops distribute food packets

CITY Police, with the assistance of 65 social service organisations, distributed foodgrains, food packets, masks, hand sanitizers and other material to more than 1.78 lakh poor and needy persons affected by nation-wide lockdown.
 
Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay, cops distributed food and other essential commodities to the poor and needy, including truckers, labourers and students from other states, beggars, slum-dwellers, at multiple locations in the past week. With the support of 65 social service organisations, including Shri Sai Sansthan, Jayaswal Sabha, Rajasthani Mahila Mandal, Gurudwara Guru Nanak Durbar, Jamat-e-Islami Hind, D P Jain Foundation, Wadi Kitchen, Sai Astha Foundation, Nagpur Hotel Owners Association, Lions Club, Priyadarshini Samrat Ashok Bahuddeshiya Sanstha, Save Our Souls, Digambar Jain Samaj and Shwetambar Jain Samaj, police undertook the project.
 
They also provided food packets and sanitizers to the medical and para-medical staff of the quarantine centre at MLA Hostel and also at 19 shelter homes. Cops started a WhatsApp group -- Corona NGO Police Administration -- to provide relief to the needy in the city. The members in the group include representatives of all religions, businessmen and social workers. To extend assistance to the needy and the downtrodden, a call centre has been started at Cyber Cell .
 
As many as 58 ex-servicemen, 18 members of NCC Golden Group and retired policemen have extended their services voluntarily at 33 police stations for the project. Deputy Commissioner of Police Gajanan Rajmane (Detection) and Vinita Sahu (Zone II) and staff under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nilesh Bharne distributed food and other items to the needy persons at several locations to prevent crowding. The police officers ensured social distancing at all the places where food was being distributed.
