95 pc citizens believe sports is a stress buster: Survey

A NATION-WIDE survey conducted by Dr Ambedkar College Sports Academy and Internal Quality Assurance Cell reveals 95 per cent people believe sports is a stress buster and helps one in fighting stress effectively. The survey, which was conducted in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, revealed different reactions and opinions of the citizens. The survey had over a dozen questions seeking opinions from citizens. Since the first lockdown to the present period it has been widely seen that people have chosen to play with family members and sometimes with neighbours too with whom they never found time to do it otherwise. More than 600 people registered their opinions and recorded what they observed around in the lockdown period. Of the total respondents more than 72 per cent were males and 28 per cent females.
 
A maximum of 67 per cent respondents were from Maharashtra followed by Andhra Pradesh and Delhi. The age group of 21 to 30 recorded maximum portion and teachers if taken by profession of the respondent; the next were followed by entrepreneurs and IT professionals. It is found that people who have been playing team games such as cricket, hockey, volleyball, football, etc. scored maximum points whereas people engaged in individual sports such as table tennis, swimming, badminton, cycling, etc recorded 33 per cent of participation. An analysis of the total data revealed that more than 90 per cent of the total respondents were of the opinion that sports and games help you to get relief from negativity and supports in improving positive attitude towards life.
 
More than 80 per cent believed that people in the country have suddenly developed positive outlook towards sports. To another question 95 per cent believed sports is a good activity to fight mental fatigue and help build a better social relationship. The survey received mixed opinion when asked whether people would say goodbye to sports once the lockdown is lifted and life is restored to normal. More than three quarters of the total respondents recorded that yoga can help to build a better immunity for fighting seasonal infections and keep us healthy.
 
Over 90 per cent felt that sports can reduce screen time of children and help them build an active physical body. The survey was a combined venture by Dr Arvind Joshi, Vice-Principal, Dr Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi, Dr Hema Menon, Co-ordinator of IQAC and Dr Shailesh Bahadure, Head, Department of English, DACN.
