District Sports Council gives financial aid to athlete Jyoti

DISTRICT Sports Council provided financial aid to international athlete of city Jyoti Chavan. The cheque of Rs 25,000 was handed over to Jyoti by State Sports Minister Sunil Kedar. Jyoti had represented India at the World University Games at Italy last year where she finished 11th and second amongst Indians. Due to lockdown which was imposed due to deadly coronavirus, her family was finding it difficult to arrange two square meals. After the news of her plight was published in several newspapers, various organisations came forward to help her. Kedar also had discussion with Jyoti and assured her help in future.
 
The minister also asked Avinash Pund, District Sports Officer, to gather all the information about such international athletes, sportspersons of the city who are finding it difficult to earn their daily bread during this lockdown period and submit it to his department. On the occasion, Dr Jayprakash Dubale, Joint Director, Sports and Youth Services, Pune, Dr Subhash Rewatkar, Deputy Director, Sports, Nagpur Division, Asha Meshram, Taluka Sports Officer and others were also present. More sportspersons request for help Meanwhile, after Jyoti Chavan received the financial aid from the Maharashtra Government, several other sportsperson from the city approached district sports administration and sought help.
 
Shiv Chhatrapati award winning archer Sandip Gavai along with others submitted a memorandum at DSO requesting for financial aid. The other sportspersons include international powerlifter Roshani Rinke (physically challenged), international athletes Prajakta Godbole, Nikita Raut, judoka Pranali Raut, archer Abhishek Thawre, physically challenged powerlifter and Shiv Chhatrapati award winner Kamlesh Lanjewar. The memorandum was handed over to District Sports Officer Avinash Pund in presence of Arjuna Awardee Vijay Munishwar, NMC Sports Officer and Shiv Chhatrapati Award winner Piyush Ambulkar, Pravin Sorte, Sachin Mathne and others.
