SPANDAN Seth scored eight points from nine matches to emerge champion in the Nagpur District Online Blitz Tournament that concluded on Friday. The results were declared on Sunday after the organisers — Nagpur District Chess Association, got the anti-cheating report. Unseeded Seth confirmed the title with a round remaining after securing eight straight wins. In his inconsequential last and final round, Seth lost to Sumedh Ramteke. Seth was followed by Ansh Dhanvij and R Shivasubramanian on second and third spots respectively.
 
 
 
Enroute to the title, Seth toppled both the top seeds including Arena Grand Master (AGM) Shivasubramanian and Dhanvij who both ended with an identical seven points. On the basis of tie-break score, Dhanvij finished a rung above. Umesh Wasnik saved his last round game against Pranavi Bhagat to finish fourth. Seth also had the better of higher-rated rivals including Nilay Kulkarni, Ayush Ramteke, Lakshya Hirani, Kaustav Barat, Umesh Wasnik and Aarush Chitare in the event.
 
The nine-round event was conducted exclusively for city players and was played from home in the shortest format. As many as 33 city youngsters took part in the two-hour online meet conducted on the server of lichess.org. This tournament was conducted under the supervision of IA Swapnil Bansod, IA Pravin Pantawane and FA Umesh Panbude.
