The sale of ‘matka’, earthen pots witnessed lowest sales in the ongoing summer season. Despite high temperatures touching upto 44 degree centigrade in the ongoing Nautapa the sale of this important accessory in houses witnessed low demand. Following lockdown to cut the spread of coronavirus epidemic like other businesses the business of earthen pots and terracotta utensils like surahi, water filter, curd plates and bowls, etc faced hit. In different centres of city this year sale of traditional earthen pots did not picked pace as since the start of the season the lockdown had badly hampered the sales. Mostly sales comes in these shops in the month of March end and in first week of April.

This year like these items the sale of electronic items and water purification systems also witnessed low demand. Following lockdown the sales of traditional items were very low and prices also witnessed lowering. The normal size earthen pot Matka is being sold at the rate of Rs 80 to Rs 100 while for the Terracotta products the prices are little higher.

Prepeartions for the summer season started from January onwards with collection of mud and clay for the products by the Potters. Followed which processing for mud preparations and making pots for furnace started in February and production comes in the March, which due in lockdown remained in kiosks.
