Raipur Police on Sunday claimed to have safely rescued a one-day-old infant, who was abducted from Primary Health Centre (PHC) Abhanpur last evening, by arresting two persons including a woman. “Two persons, including a woman, were arrested for abducting a newly born infant from PHC Abhanpur and the baby boy was rescued safely. Police have handed over the child to his parents,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Tarkeshwar Patel. ASP Patel further informed that the arrested were identified as Puja Sinha (27), hailing from Durg district, and her brother Paras Ram Sinha (32), a resident of Moti Nagar under Tikrapara police station limits.

Late last evening, the duo abducted a child delivered by Khemeshwari Dheever in PHC Abhanpur on the pretext of administering a vaccine. Shedding more details about the crime, ASP Patel said “After getting divorced, the second marriage of Puja was fixed and before tying the nuptial knot, doctor informed her that she cannot conceive in future. Puja hid her medical complication from her husband and in-laws. Sometime later, Puja spread fake news of her pregnancy and expressed desire of delivering the child in the maternal home. After carrying out recce of PHC Abhanpur for three-four days, Puja along with her brother Paras abducted the infant.” Following a complaint in this connection, police launched an extensive probe, said ASP Patel, adding that based on technical evidence, police managed to arrest the duo and safely rescue the child. It may be recalled that on June 20, a pregnant woman identified as Khemeshwari Dheever was admitted to PHC Abhanpur early morning and she gave birth to a healthy baby boy at around 8 am on the same day.

During evening hours, the woman entered the ward and took the child on the pretext of administering a vaccine. On the complaint of the pained woman’s family members, police registered an offence against the unidentified woman under Sections 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched a search, added ASP Rural.
