The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has filed a complaint in Civil Lines Police Station against CPCC President Mohan Markam, Social Media Coordinator and Office Coordinator of INC Chhattisgarh for making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the official twitter handle of INC Chhattisgarh. Requesting to lodge an FIR against the CPCC President and others, Naresh Chandra Gupta, Coordinator, BJP State Legal Cell, that he wanted that the FIR should be lodged as the twitter handle of INC Chhattisgarh had made two illicit tweets, one on June 19 and the other on June 21 targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The language used in both the tweets is derogatory, defamatory and obscene in nature.
 
The first tweet made on June 19 refers to the Prime Minister as a ‘fraud or trickster’ while the second tweet made on June 21 refers to Prime Minister as traitor. The complaint further states that the tweets made against the Prime Minister are obscene, derogatory and defamatory in nature. They constitute an offence under Sections 294, 500 and 501 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, as these derogatory, obscene and defamatory tweets were published in an online platform, the twitter handle of INC Chhattisgarh.
 
Gupta in his complaint further added that due to above mentioned offences, FIR should be lodged against CPCC President Mohan Markam, Social Media Coordinator and Office Coordinator of INC Chhattisgarh at once under the said sections of the IPC and IT Act and appropriate criminal proceedings in accordance with the law should be initiated.
