IN TUNE with the ‘Boycott China” campaign that has taken firm root in India, the digital platforms, too, have started similar initiative by deleting Chinese Apps. It is being seen as a wise move after the Indian Intelligence agencies red-flagged over 50 China-linked mobile apps over security concerns. The warning has the backing of the National Security Council Secretariat which has determined that the China-linked applications can be highly detrimental to the country’s security. Early warning about the dangers of Chinese mobile apps was sounded a few years ago by different Intel agencies in the US and Europe but the Indian users had not much alternatives available for the apps. The national mood has now undergone a drastic change after China’s attack on Indian soldiers in Ladakh. Concerns about safety and privacy breach are for real and the Indian users will do well to stay away from a potential danger. The good news is Indian companies have already made available some fine alternatives for the Chinese apps. Secure digital presence is now a mandatory need.

NEPAL’S OVERTURES

A FALSE belief about its powers seems to have possessed the policy-makers in the tiny nation of Nepal following the changes the Government made in the country’s cartographic map to stake claim over some Indian territories. The move was totally backed by an over-assertive China as the anti-India rhetoric had clear reflection of the Chinese policy. Still under a dangerous hangover, Nepal is indulging in new provocations that is testing India’s patience. It has now stopped all repair work on the Gandak barrage near the border in Bihar which can cause severe floods in the Indian state during the forthcoming rainy season. This has never happened before and both the sides used to take proper precautions before the onset of monsoon to minimise any damage caused by excess rains. Nepal’s action is highly condemnable and must be dealt with a stern hand by the Indian authorities. It is time to unfold some harsh truths to teach lesson to an intoxicated regime.
