Four persons die of suffocation in septic tank at Marrakona village

IN a tragic incident, at least four persons died of suffocation while cleaning a septic tank at village Marrakona in Sargaon, located about 40 kilometres away from here in Mungeli district on Tuesday evening. The bodies had been sent for the autopsy. District Collector P S Elma has ordered an enquiry into the matter. State Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik have expressed their condolences in the deaths.
 
According to information, two Saragaon Nagar Panchayat employees, alongwith two sweepers, went to Lakhan Verma and Mansharam Verma’s house at village Marrakona for cleaning the septic tank. After cleaning the tank, Akhilesh Verma (42), son of Lakhan Verma, jumped inside to clean it with water and got suffocated. Instantly his cousin Ramkhilawan Verma (42), son of Mansharam Verma, also jumped inside to save him and was also suffocated. With two deaths Mansharam Verma’s other son Gaurishankar Verma and sweeper Subhash also entered the tank and met the same fate. Instantly after information Sargaon Police rushed to the spot and took possession of the bodies and sent them for autopsy.District Collector P S Elma taking the matter seriously ordered an enquiry into the matter.
 
State Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel reacting to the incident expressed his condolences for all the deceased and assured to extend every support to the bereaved families. Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik prayed for peace of the departed souls and said that the incident was very horrifying. He also discussed the matter with the District Collector and demanded thorough enquiry into the matter.
