MS. Clare Connor will become the first woman to head the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) of England on October 1 next when Mr. Kumara Sangakkara demits office as the President. This will be an important moment in English cricket when a woman starts leading its core body that was founded as many as 233 years ago. Generally, there should be no difficulty in getting the MCC members’ approval for her accession. Of course, Ms. Clare Connor is no novice in cricket, having led the English women’s team with distinction. Going by the spark she brought to all her cricket-related activities, Ms. Connor will certainly introduce to English cricket’s management a little more smartness, a little newer approach. In the past some, English cricket has seen many a change for the better. Ms. Connor is expected to make things better, smarter and more open. It will be an interesting endeavour to watch a woman to lead a male-dominated body that prides in its glorious tradition.
