Maharashtra’s Environment and Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray complimented civic officials for success achieved on COVID-19 management in Nagpur city. Interacting with bureaucrats of State through video conferencing, Thackeray applauded Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe and said latter’s leadership was key point in keeping infection rate in city to minimum. Thackeray interacted with officials of Nagpur, Nasik and Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday morning taking stock of the situation on novel coronavirus front. Unfazed by criticism, Mundhe went by book and hence could ensure that infection of COVID-19 was kept limited to few localities.
 
Besides Municipal Commissioner decision to kick starting contact tracing and fast treatment and enmass quarantine proved to be beneficial and Nagpur is now tops in both counts, low in death and high in cure of COVID-19 patients. Thackeray laid stress on house to house survey and mass isolation to successfully combat COVID-19 pandemic. During the interaction, Mundhe demanded life support ambulance from State Government so that it can come handy in critical times to stabilise the serious patients. He also mentioned various measures initiated through Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to implement the strategy rolled out by Maharashtra Government. The most important is daily meeting and dialogue with experts in Corona War Room that enables faster decision making thus providing edge in fight.
 
Also he informed about the success achieved by upgrading civic hospitals and readying 500 beds with oxygen facility so that it can be ready if the cases rise rapidly. Also private hospitals in city were also directed to be in readiness to hand over their health unit if the need arise. Municipal Commissioner also informed about programme undertaken by civic body to create awareness among pregnant women, TB patients, people with history of leprosy and cancer.
 
Also a helpline was started for senior citizens and physically challenged so that NMC can provide help in nick of time when needed. So far about 12,000 people were counseled through the helpline set-up at time of lockdown. Thackeray also applauded the tie-up by NMC with Radha Saomi Satsang and readying Covid Care Centre with 500 beds ready and to be scaled up to 5,000 when needed. Mundhe also shared details about measures taken in COVID-19 hot spots of Satranjipura, Mominpura, Naik Talao, all dense localities, and managing to steer the community out through the critical phase.
