MUHS starts Covid security scheme for health sector staff working in Covid wards
 
 
“Considering the situation arising due to Covid-19 pandemic, medical education see good number of changes. Now, we will encourage research on new diseases so that the department would have preparedness to fight any such attack in future. I have asked Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) to strengthen Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. This will not only help students studying medical education but also the society at large because our future doctors will be ready with much faster solutions,” said Amit Deshmukh, Maharashtra Minister for Medical Education. Deshmukh was addressing MUHS senate meeting.
 
Deshmukh who is also the Pro-Chancellor of MUHS has made proper moves as far as the issue of conduction examinations of health sciences courses is concerned. He feels health sector requires expert manpower so accordingly university should start such type of courses that would create skilled manpower in this sector. “Courses like Clinical Technician if started will help the whole society. To tackle several new diseases, new research need to be conducted. At the same time, State will be focusing on increasing the number of medicos against the total population. I feel MUHS should enhance the quality to make our students capable of facing global competition,” pointed out Deshmukh.
 
Apprising the Senate about the measures taken by MUHS, Dr Dileep Mhaisekar, Vice Chancellor said, “Several students, staff, doctors are working in Covid 19 wards in various Government hospitals in State. We have started Covid Security Scheme for all of them. Under this scheme, Rs one lakh medical help will be given for the treatment, if death takes place then Rs 3 lakh will be given to the family of the deceased. About 35,000 Personal Protection Equipment kits will be made available for the students of Medical, Dental and Ayurved and 20 ventilators will be given for the training and safety of students.”
 
Responding to what Deshmukh said about research, Dr Mhaisekar pointed out, “We will encourage research and accordingly the provision has been made in the budget. Apart from that several welfare schemes for students will be introduced. Personality development training to teachers and students, social awareness, graduate registration, alumni association, e-library, student welfare coordinator at college level, honourarium schemes for university staff are the other things incorporated.” Informing Senate about the establishment of independent unit of research in university, Dr Mohan Khamgaonkar, Pro-Vice Chancellor said, “This department is conducting the research.
 
We will ask all the colleges to set up such research unit so that more and more research would be conducted. The budget committee headed by Sachin Mumbre had Dr Ajit Pathak, Controller of Examinations, Dr K D Chavan and Dr Manisha Kothekar (Nagpur) as other members. The on-line meeting was attended by Padmashri Dr T P Lahane, Director, Medical Education; Dr Sameer Golawar, Dr Darshan Dakshindas, Dr Shailesh Mohite, Dr Manisha Kothekar, Dr Meera Aurangabadkar, Dr Manisha Deshpande and others.
