RAIPUR,

Amid rumour of rift among senior Congress leaders over political appointments in boards, corporations and commissions, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) President Mohan Markam has reached Delhi on Thursday to discuss with the leaders of All India Congress Committee (AICC). CPCC President Markam has met State Congress In-charge P L Punia and discussed political appointments in boards, corporations and commissions, appointments of parliamentary secretaries and other organisational activities. Speaking to ‘The Hitavada’ over telephone, CPCC In-charge General Secretary Chandrashekhar Shukla confirmed that CPCC President Markam is on two-day visit to Delhi where he would meet leaders of the Congress High Command.

He met State Congress In-charge P L Punia and held discussion with him. Markam will return to Raipur on Friday. As Markam has suddenly reached Delhi on Thursday, there are wide speculations that the names of the Congress leaders would be finalised for parliamentary secretaries and political appointments in boards, corporations and commissions. CPCC President Markam may meet former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders in Delhi.

Besides, Markam would discuss with the Congress high command about proposed foundation laying ceremony of building of district Congress party office in 22 districts on August 20, constitution of executive body of the District Congress Committees (DCCs), strategy for inclusion of Chhattisgarh for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana and other matters. It may be mentioned that Congress National President Sonia Gandhi along with former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi and Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge P L Punia would lay the foundation stones for construction of buildings for party offices in 22 districts through video conferencing on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, on August 20.

Meanwhile the Congress has strongly denied Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson Sachchidanand Upasane’s allegation that there is dispute between CPCC President Mohan Markam and Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Charan Das Mahant over the issue of political appointments. It may be noted that after 18 months of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government, only three political appointments have been made by the government so far and the process for further appointments have already begun and Congress leaders are eagerly waiting for its announcement. According to the official sources, there are around 24 Commissions, 9 Boards and over 6 Corporations in the state where the political appointments are yet to be made.
