LUCKNOW,

On being asked what should be done by the Government after her son’s arrest, Sarla Devi said, “The Government should do whatever it feels appropriate (sarkar jo uchit samjhe, woh kare).”

GANGSTER Vikas Dubey’s mother Sarla Devi on Thursday said that her son, arrested for the Kanpur ambush, is with the SP, a claim denied by the party. Dubey was arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain on Thursday after a six-day manhunt following the Kanpur ambush in which eight policemen were gunned down. Earlier, in a 2017 video seen on social media, the gangster is heard claiming that two BJP MLAs helped him in the past. On being asked what should be done by the Government after her son’s arrest, Sarla Devi said, “The Government should do whatever it feels appropriate (sarkar jo uchit samjhe, woh kare).” “At this time, he is not in the BJP, he is with the SP,” she told reporters.

Meanwhile, an SP spokesman said Vikas is “not a member of the party” and strict action should be taken against him. His call record details should be made public as demanded by party President Akhilesh Yadav to expose his links, added the party spokesperson. Earlier, Sarala Devi said that she got the information about his arrest from TV news. “Now the government must do what it deems fit. The government is very powerful. I do not know what to say,” she said. ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that the matter is being investigated. The search for other culprits in this case is also on. We will not rest until all the culprits are arrested.

‘Slain officer’s letter never reached Kanpur SSP office’

LUCKNOW,

July 9 (IANS)

THE controversial letter written by circle officer Devendra Mishra to former Kanpur SSP, accusing station officer Chaubeypur, Vinay Tiwari, of shielding gangster Vikas Dubey, was typed on a computer of the circle officer by a lady constable, but it was not received at SSP Kanpur office. Lucknow IG Laxmi Singh, who was asked to probe the matter, submitted her report to the UP DGP H C Awasthi on Wednesday evening. According to official sources, the report says, the circle officer’s daughter made the letter viral after her father’s death. The report was submitted to the DGP. IG Laxmi Singh had left for Kanpur on Tuesday along with a five-member team and forensic experts, who seized laptops and documents from the office of Bilhaur circle officer for tests. Singh personally checked files and scrutinised documents in the office. It is not yet known how the letter went missing and who is responsible for this.
