India’s 1st ‘e-Lok Adalat’ to be inaugurated in C’garh today

Chief Justice of High Court of Chhattisgarh Justice and Patron-in-Chief of Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority (CGSLSA) P R Ramachandra Menon will inaugurate India’s first State-level ‘e-Lok Adalat’ through video conferencing on Saturday. The inaugural function is scheduled to begin at 10.30 am. Judge of High Court and Executive Chairman of the CGSLSA Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra will preside over the function. Judge of the High Court and Chairman of Committee for Computerisation of High Court Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Judge of High Court and Chairman of High Court Legal Services Committee Justice Goutam Bhaduri will be present as special guests in the programme.
 
Talking to mediapersons at Old High Court in Bilaspur on Friday, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra said that India’s first state-level ‘e-Lok Adalat’ would be held in High Court of Chhattisgarh, district courts and tehsil courts through video conferencing on Saturday. 195 benches have been constituted for disposal and hearing of pending cases through video conferencing in State. 3,185 dockets have been prepared so far for the e-Lok Adalat, Justice Mishra added.
 
As the entire world is passing through an unprecedented crisis due to the pandemic due to ill effects of COVID-19 pandemic, poor litigants in the country are also suffering due to suspension of regular functioning of subordinate courts for the last four months. Litigants mainly claimants of Motor Accident claim cases, cheque bounce cases, matrimonial disputes etc are suffering a lot. If the e-Lok Adalat gets successful, such e-Lok Adalat can be conducted in other States.
