India will become a model of ‘clean energy’ in world: PM Governor Anandiben Patel and MP CM Chouhan join the video conference

PRIME Minister Narendra Modi has said that India will become a model of ‘clean energy’ in the world. Launching Asia’s largest 750 MW solar project in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh through video-conferencing, Modi also said that the State will emerge as a major hub for clean and cheap power in the country. The Rewa project comprises three solar generating units of 250 MW each located on a 500 hectare plot of land situated inside a Solar Park (total area 1500 hectare).

The Prime Minister said that not only Madhya Pradesh is getting electricity from the 750 MW Rewa Solar Project but it is a matter of joy that the project is providing 24 per cent of its power to Delhi Metro also. “India has created the ‘International Solar Alliance’ to promote solar energy. Our effort is to ensure that the common man generates his own electricity at home.

The Government will help him in this work. We are attempting to make better solar panels, batteries, storage in the country so that we do not have to import equipment from abroad. Excellent work is being done in the field of solar energy in Madhya Pradesh. State is becoming a hub of low cost and clean electricity,” said the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Modi said that remarkable works are being done in Madhya Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Along with effective control of corona, Madhya Pradesh has created a record in wheat production. Now, Madhya Pradesh will also make a record in solar power generation.

The world is in a dilemma on whether to focus on the environment or on the economy, Modi said. However, India has shown to the world that the environment and economy are not at odds, but are complementary to each other, the PM said. The country has successfully demonstrated this in implementing programmes like Swachh Bharat, LPG connections to the poor (under Ujjwala scheme), CNG and electricity-based transportation, among others, he said. The Government is planning such a scheme, through which farmers will now be able to produce electricity by putting solar panels on their barren and unusable land. He will be able to supply electricity to others as well as fulfill his own requirements.

Our farmer will also be able to become energy givers, the Prime Minister said. On this occasion Governor Anandiben Patel from Lucknow, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Bhopal, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Thawarchand Gehlot, Dharmendra Pradhan, Prahlad Patel, R K Singh, Faggan Singh Kulaste from Delhi and MPs, MLAs and public representatives from Rewa were present. “Today, Rewa has scripted history. Rewa is identified with the name of mother Narmada and the white tiger. Now, the name of Asias largest solar power project has also been added to it,” Modi said.

Rewa Solar Project is the first project from which the power received is cheaper than the power received from thermal energy. For the first time this project provided electricity to any commercial institution ‘Delhi Metro’ outside the State through open access. It is the first project in the country to get World Bank and CTF loan for internal grid co-ordination, which has got World Bank loan without guarantee of State Government. The loan has been approved under ‘Clean Technology Fund’, which is a Libor-free loan obtained at a cheap rate of 0.25 per cent. The project is preventing CO2 emissions of 15.7 lakh tonnes annually, which is equivalent to planting 2. 6 crore trees.
