CID to probe into firing at Mayor’s car case

AFTER drawing blank in the probe into the mysterious firing on Mayor Sandip Joshi for more than six months, Director General of Police (DGP) Maharashtra Subodh Kumar Jaiswal transferred the probe to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Nagpur in a hope to get a breakthrough.
 
Top rank officials confirmed the information and said that the case was discussed with State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh who instructed DGP Jaiswal to transfer the probe to CID Nagpur. The investigation will be done under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) CID Rajlaxmi Shivankar.
 
Mayor had a narrow escape when two motorcycle-borne men fired at his car on Wardha Road on December 17, 2019. The incident took place at around 11.59 pm when Joshi was returning home along with his family members and friends after celebrating his wedding anniversary at a restaurant. Joshi’s SUV was the last in the cavalcade. When the cavalcade reached a junction of the Outer Ring Road and Wardha Road, two motorcycle-borne men, who were following the car, fired three bullets at the Mayor’s car and fled.
 
One bullet hit the driver’s window of the SUV, another pierced through the passenger window behind the driver’s seat and the third hit the rear windshield of the car.
 
Crime Branch of Nagpur Police was investigating the case with tooth and nail. Several persons were interrogated during the investigation and Cyber experts were also tasked to get a breakthrough.
 
However, the police failed to get breakthrough in the case. Sources informed that documents related to the case including First Investigation Report (FIR) was handed-over to officials of CID. The CID officials are studying the documents to decide angle of investigation.
