AFTER drawing blank in the probe into the mysterious firing on Mayor Sandip Joshi for more than six months, Director General of Police (DGP) Maharashtra Subodh Kumar Jaiswal transferred the probe to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Nagpur in a hope to get a breakthrough.

Top rank officials confirmed the information and said that the case was discussed with State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh who instructed DGP Jaiswal to transfer the probe to CID Nagpur. The investigation will be done under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) CID Rajlaxmi Shivankar.

Mayor Joshi had a narrow escape when two bike-borne men fired at his car on Wardha Road on December 17, 2019. The incident took place at around 11.59 pm when Joshi was returning home along with his family members and friends after celebrating his wedding anniversary at a restaurant.

Joshi’s SUV was the last in the cavalcade and when it reached a junction of the Outer Ring Road and Wardha Road, two motorcycle-borne men, who were behind the car, fired three bullets at the Mayor’s vehicle and fled.

One bullet hit the driver’s window of the SUV, another pierced through the passenger window behind the driver’s seat and the third hit the rear windshield of the car.
