Mah adds 7,827 new COVID-19 cases in single day; total crosses 2.5 lakh

MAHARASHTRA’S COVID-19 cases rose by 7,827 to 2,54,427 on Sunday, State Health Department said. With 173 more patients succumbing to the infection, the number of fatalities has gone up to 10,289, the department said in a statement. A total of 3,340 people were discharged in the day, taking the number of the recovered cases to 1,40,325, it said.
 
13,17,895people have been tested so far. The number of active cases in the State now stands at 1,03,813. Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in Palghar district reached 9,349 on Sunday as 308 people tested positive for novel coronavirus, while the toll reached 178 as 23 people succumbed to the infection during the day, an official said. Vasai-Virar municipal limits account for 7,613 cases, while the rural parts have 1,736.
 
“In the rural areas, the highest number of cases is in Palghar taluka with 567, followed by Vasai rural with 374 and Wada with 306 cases so far,” he said. In Thane district, Kalyan continued to be the prime contributor in the rise with a single-day record spike of 661 cases reported on Sunday. It also witnessed eight deaths from the infection during the day, an official said.

WITH 1,263 new COVID-19 cases being recorded on Sunday, Mumbai’s case count has mounted to 92,720, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The number of fatalities has gone up by 44 to 5,285, it said in a statement. Mumbai’s COVID-19 recovery rate now stands at 70 per cent while the doubling rate has improved to 50 days. A total of 3,91,222 samples have been tested till July 11, the BMC added. The number of the recovered cases went up by 1,441 to 64,872. Mumbai now has 22,556 active cases, the BMC added.
