INDIA Number 2 in senior women’s singles category, city’s badminton star Malvika Bansod has cleared her Class 12 examinations with flying colours. The results of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education were announced on Thursday. A student of Shivaji Science College Malvika scored a staggering 92.15 per cent marks.

The marks hold much importance as it came in Science Stream (Electronics) and that she got very little time to study. In the last year, she played 15 tournaments including making her international debut in senior category. In just three months of her international participation, Malvika (162) broke into Top 200 in world rankings. Daughter of dentists Dr Prabodh and Dr Trupti Bansod, the left-handed Malvika has also represented India. No prizes for guessing that the girl was over the moon with the result. “I am extremely happy to secure 92.15 per cent in my HSC examination in science stream.

I am very grateful to Shivaji Science College Principal Dr Dhore Sir, management and the staff of all the departments for the unflinching support, cooperation and encouragement in sports and academics. I attribute my success to my tutors Dr Megha Joshi Maam, Vinay Singh Sir, Paturkar Maam and Khandekar Maam. Without their support this would not have been possible. My parents and my grandparents — Mrs Anuprita Bansod and Mr Dipak Bansod supported me constantly in the difficult and challenging times of the past academic year. “I played 15 tournaments last year and I take this opportunity to thank NDBA, District Sports Office and MBA President Lakhani Sir for the incredible support. By the grace of the almighty I succeeded in balancing both the fields.

It was especially challenging as I was playing competitive badminton till the last week of January, hence today I cherish this result so dearly,” said an elated Malvika while talking to ‘The Hitavada’. Dr Trupti took the opportunity to thank the almighty and all those who helped her daughter bask in glory. “As parents, we are delighted too and thankful to the almighty for blessing her with this success. We are extremely grateful to principal sir, staff and management of Shivaji Science College, Mrs Kundatai Vijaykar, Mr Mangesh Kashikar, MBA President Mr Arun Lakhani Sir and all tutors in her academic subjects for believing in Malvika and always supporting and encouraging her,” said Dr Trupti.
