‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’, the first of its kind scheme in country, commenced in Chhattisgarh from the auspicious day of Hareli on Monday. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the scheme by symbolically procuring cow dung. Under the scheme, the Government will procure cow dung at Rs 2/kg from livestock owners and use it to prepare organic fertilisers. The ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ will create employment opportunities on a large scale.
 
Traditionally, Hareli festival is associated with agriculture and environment, so the ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ was inaugurated on the occasion. Implementation of ‘Suraaji Gaon Yojana’ has been started in villages already, under which construction of more than 5,000 cowsheds has been constructed. Construction of 2,785 cowsheds has been completed, and remaining are being constructed at a fast pace. ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ will be implemented through these cowsheds only.
 
Cowsheds (gauthans) are being developed as a care centre for cattle. Women Self-Help Groups (SHG)s are conducting various income- oriented schemes here including the preparation of vermin-compost. The State Government has set the target of expanding the scheme across State by building cowsheds in all 1,1630 gram panchayats and all 20,000 villages in phases. The Chief Minister performed Hareli puja along with his wife Mukteshwari Baghel. He commenced the scheme by worshipping the livestock and agricultural equipment.
 
The CM extended greetings of the first festival of the new year and said that this scheme will prove to be a boon for farms and cattle ranchers and an elixir for the rural economy, in this time of crisis. Baghel said that ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ will encourage use of organic fertilisers, minimising the use of chemical ones. Fertility of soil will improve and availability of chemical free fertilisers will improve, which will further enhance nutrition-level of crops as well. Gauthan Samitis will procure cow dung from farmers and cattle ranchers at Rs 2/kg, and women SHG will prepare vermi compost from it. Vermi compost so produced will be sold at the rate of Rs 8 per kg.
 
Cow-dung procured will also be utilised for manufacturing other products. At the inaugural programme Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, Urban Administration Minister Dr Shivkumar Daharia, Food Amarjeet Bhagat, Chief Secretary R P Mandal, ACS Subrat Sahoo, Principal Secretary (Forest) Manoj Pingua, Commissioner Agriculture Production Dr M Geeta, Secretary Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi, PCCF Rakesh Chaturvedi and many public representatives and prominent citizens were present. To celebrate the traditional Hareli festival of Chhattisgarh, a part of the Chief Minister’s residence was decorated on a rural theme. A tableau was displayed at the Chief Minister’s residence portraying the way the puja is performed in the village houses.
 
The tableau of the village houses and fences were prepared using dung and mud. The tableau also had models of gothan, Gada baila and many items including the use of farmers, tools, nangar, gaiti, rapa, kudali, bansula on display. The Chief Minister worshiped tools and fed cows. The village deity and Tulsi Chara were placed at the place of worship. On the occasion the Chief Minister along with his family enjoyed Rahchul (Rahchuli) performance at the cultural programme. He also climbed the Gedi and performed various traditional rituals of the festival.
 
Folk artists, folk dancers, folk singers of Chhattisgarh gave performances in traditional costumes with musical instruments and decorations. Bamboo songs (Baans Geet) were also performed at the programme. Bamboo song artists were specially invited from Gariaband district. Baans Geet was performed by Latti Yadav and fellow artists.

International sand artist of Odisha, Sudarshan Patnaik dedicated a beautiful sand sculpture at Puri Beach on this one of kind scheme for procurement of dung and congratulated Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. CM, Ministers, MLA and common people have put the logo of ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ as their profile pictures on social media. People have given a positive reaction to the scheme. The moment CM Baghel posted hashtag ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ on twitter, it went viral across the nation within one hour. It got over six thousand tweets.
