Coronavirus pandemic has led to many challenges including loneliness, homelessness, survival issues and others, but at the same time, it has also introduced us with many people who rose as real heroes by helping others selflessly despite all adversities. Awdhesh Yadav is one such braveheart who despite being tested positive for COVID-19 alongwith six other members of his family, decided to bounce back instead cursing his fate for his medical condition.

“I tested positive for COVID-19 on July 7 and was admitted at isolation ward, Super Specialty Hospital, earlier I like others, felt like a victim of misfortune. But soon the scenario changed for me. Amidst the cruel reality of carrying the virus inside, I decided to be more empathetic to other elderly persons who were worse off. Though the district and medical administration have made impressive arrangements for better healthcare of patients, the elderly patients were still going through mental stress, low confidence and loneliness in absence of their family.

Hence I decided to help the health workers to take care of these elderly patients. I used to feed them with my hands, encouraged them through yoga and other entertaining activities. Slowly few others joined me and we even took charge of maintaining cleanliness at every corner of the ward”, said Yadav, a resident of Choti Omti near Ram Mandir.According to him, crisis teaches us to be more kind and compassionate towards one another and extend help wherever required.
