DEEPAK Mehra, a 17-year specially-abled hyper active child who developed a clam and joyful nature over the years by going to school, playing with friends, interacting with teachers is now facing behavioural changes due to shutdown of schools because of COVID-19. Similarly, other hyper active children and autistic kids are also going through stress and have affected routine life.

Umang Gaurav Deep Welfare Society which runs schools for special children is taking various endeavours to continue studies and activities for its students and make hyper active children relaxed during this COVID-19 crisis.Deepti Patwa, Founder of Umang Gaurav Deep Welfare Society informed ‘The Hitavada’ that, “The pandemic has adversely affected the lifestyle of the special kids especially the hyper active ones. We are trying our best to manage studies and to control their hyper active behaviour.

These children love to be in school, interact with teachers and friends so we make regular video calls and give them their favourite activities for home. When we call these students, they become happy and it results to some positive changes in their behaviour.”“Besides, the hyper active students are being given counselling by the counsellors periodically online. Keeping in ind the present situation, we would also plan a visit to these kids’ homes”, she added. There are total 75 students, among which 50 are special children who are being taught online.
