Bhopal witnesses 76% decline in cases of dengue and malaria due to less migration

The restrictions over the movement of citizens owing to corona induced lockdown has given a much wanted respite from the Dengue and Malaria cases in the State capital. Bhopal witnessed a notable decline of 76 per cent cases in dengue as compared to the previous year. The number of dengue cases is often observed to increase at the beginning of the year due to the rainy season and high temperatures and peak between March and April.

According to the Government data only 16 cases of dengue have been reported this year until now which were 68 in the same span, previous year. District Malaria Officer, Akhilesh Dubey told ‘The Hitavada’ that in Bhopal with the beginning of academic session, migration increases every year in July. He added that students from Southern part of India come here through buses and other transportation services, which are at a halt due to the lockdown, which contributed a lot in controlling dengue and malaria cases. 
 
Survey, fogging continues amidst total lockdown The health department officials said that fogging and surveying for dengue and malaria patients continued amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, the malaria and dengue patients were also identified during the ‘Kill Corona Campaign’. An anti-larvae campaign was also launched to kill the larvae and to avoid unnecessary accumulation of water, which may give a rise to vector borne diseases.
