Prakash Gajbhiye, MLC of the ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has urged the civic and police administration to allow idol-makers to continue with their work and to revoke fine imposed on them. A delegation led by Gajbhiye and comprising Corporator Duneshwar Pethe, Chandu Bind, Uday Taywade, Manoj Bind, Vijay Taywade, Vijay Darlinge and others submitted a memorandum of demands to Tukaram Mundhe, Municipal Commissioner and Dr Bhushankumar Upadhyay, Commissioner of Police.

In a press release issued later on Wednesday, Gajbhiye stated that, idol-makers in Chitar Oli had been making idols of Shri Ganesh, Durga, etc., and the place had a tradition of over 300 years. All the idol-makers live in Chitar Oli and hence, they should be allowed to make idols as per orders at the same place. Besides, he demanded, the fine of Rs 5,000/- imposed on them recently should be revoked.

Mundhe reportedly assured to do the needful. Responding to Gajbhiye’s request, Dr Upadhyay reportedly asked subordinate officers to extend co-operation to idol-makers. Gajbhiye demanded to give ‘no objection certificates’ to the idol-makers.
